February Meeting: Textilelations

Beverly Hinckley, fiber artist and award winning (retired) Melrose teacher, will do a trunk show with several of the quilts she has made, some of the art pieces, and lots of stories about how she began and the fiber art process.

“I began my work with mixed media, but have always been a sewing and quilting enthusiast – working on commission pieces for weddings, graduations, and new arrivals and small wall-hanging pieces, bags, and coats. For many years, I have submitted artwork to the Juniper Island Arts Festival in Stoney Lake, Ontario, Canada and have been very well received. My original collage work utilized discarded frames, paper, rocks, wood, bones, feathers, dirt, nests, and found objects. One of my pieces hangs in the Chief’s Lodge house of the Ojibwa First Nation in Ontario. Now, however, I am using fabric pieces and leftovers to explore color and form; creating art through quilted pieces that utilize natural objects, hand-painted fabric, and dimensional objects.”
